About Eadon Consulting

Eadon Consulting was started by its founding partners David Price, James Hill and Michael Thorogood with a desire to deliver a fresh approach to engineering design and consultancy. With over 40 years combined experience working as design consultants, manufacturers, and installation managers, they have experience of being both the client and supplier. This inspired them to create a company that provides its clients with peace of mind and solutions that are based on sound engineering principles and experience. Our approach is to work closely with our clients, building relationships and trust through the delivery of our projects.

We believe in taking engineering design back to basics. "A picture speaks a thousand words" and from an early stage in a project, we start to draw. This enables us to understand the problem and issues quickly, developing working concepts early in the project, ensuring that proposed solutions are practical and achievable. This enables our clients to visualise the solution from an early stage and be more involved in the design process.

This approach also means that we consider all aspects of the design from the outset, producing an integrated system design, including the mechanical, structural, hydraulic, electrical and control requirements. This is only possible due to the diverse experience we have within the company.

We are then able to take this design and convert it into detailed manufacturing drawings. This ensures that the design is correctly translated into the final product and that it meets our clients' expectations and requirements. This can significantly reduce the risk for our clients, as well as removing the need for potentially costly specialist sub-contractors.

Our site installation experience enables us to understand the potential problems of site work and how the design can make the difference between a simple job and a complicated one. We address these issues from an early stage in the design process to minimise problems during installation. This installation experience, as well as experience commissioning hydraulic and electrical control systems, means we are well placed to offer assistance during installation if required.

One of the main founding principles behind Eadon Consulting is to work across a wide range of sectors including the nuclear industry, moving structures and bespoke machinery. This facilitates a cross fertilisation of ideas from one sector. The advantages of this are passed on to our clients, ensuring the most suitable design solution is developed for each specific project.

Before starting Eadon Consulting, David, James and Michael worked for M G Bennett and Associates. During this time, they were able to work on varied projects such as Backup Machines for some of the world's largest tunnelling machines, some of the UK's most prestigious moveable bridges, as well as special projects such as the Halley VI Antarctic Research Station.

Prior to this, David worked for Mandall Engineering Ltd, a fabrication and machine shop based in Sheffield, where he designed and installed mechanised lock gates, flood gates and various static and moveable road and foot bridges. David was also responsible for overseeing the manufacture of all his projects, as well as and planning and managing the site installation.

In addition to his experience at M G Bennett and Associates, James worked for the automotive consultancy Ricardo, designing transmissions for off-highway vehicles. He also worked within the defence industry for a number of years, working across a number of projects.

Michael has worked on a large number of movable bridge and structure projects, both in the UK and overseas, over the last 8 years. Highlights include Poole Harbour's second crossing Twin Sails Lift Bridge and Media City Footbridge at Salford Quays.
