Timber Design

Timber comes in a broad range of species with hugely varying properties. As a structural material it has a very good strength to weight ratio and used in the right circumstances can provide very cost effective design solutions. As sustainability in construction is becoming more and more important in the decision making process, the use of timber where possible gives an environmentally friendly solution compared to other building materials.

Eadon Consulting are experienced in the design of timber against the requirements of BS 5268-2 and BS EN 1995 (the Eurocode for structural timber design). The recent migration from BS 5268-2 to Eurocode 5 (BS EN 1995) has seen some interesting changes in timber section capacities and an increase in design complexity of the timber itself but also in the design of connections for timber. However the use of EN 1995 has also allowed increased flexibility in the design of timber that would have previously been unclassified.
