Copenhagen welcomes its newest addition.

Today (14th August 2019) the Municipality of Copenhagen celebrated the opening of its latest bridge across the harbour – the Lille Langebro (Little Langebro). The project was funded by Realdania as a gift to the city. The bridge is a twin swing pedestrian and cycle bridge located next to the iconic Langebro (hence the new bridge’s name of Little Langebro). The bridge provides a new low level pedestrian and cycle link between Voldgade and Langebrogade further improving these connections. It is anticipated that around 10,000 pedestrians and cyclists will use the bridge each day.

Eadon Consulting carried out the detailed concept design of the bridge operating equipment as part of a competition winning design team consisting of Buro Happold, Wilkinson Eyre, Niras and Urban Agency. The bridge was built by a joint venture of Hollandia and Mobilis DK.

The highly architectural form was selected to sit unobtrusively next to the neighbouring Langebro Bridge with the triangular edge beams warping from a shallow trinangle at the quaysides to a taller section at the centre. A key innovation on this project, and one that Eadon Consulting provided significant technical input into is the unique moment connection. This mechanical joint between the two moving spans enables the structural section at the centre to be kept low for both navigation purposes and also to allow views up and down the harbour.
