High Integrity Crane Engineering at Eadon

High integrity crane projects require specialist engineering knowledge and a clear understanding of what might go wrong, what could happen if things fail and how to manage those risks through design.
Eadon Consulting brings that specialist expertise to client projects, helping to define the right requirements, evaluate the proposed solutions and ensuring that the risks are properly addressed from the beginning.
Our engineers have an in-depth understanding of the ways in which crane systems can fail and the protection measures that can be built into the design. This draws on expertise across mechanical and structural engineering, electrical and control systems, as well as specialist areas such as seismic analysis.
“It comes down to understanding what faults could occur on a crane and how you design against them,” explains Eadon Principal Engineer Andy Fowler.
“This technical knowledge allows us to support clients as an ‘Intelligent Customer’. We define and review requirements, check designs closely, and challenge suppliers to make sure the final result gives the client what they really need.”
Andy has developed extensive experience in high integrity lifting through his work on crane projects in the nuclear sector, from assessing existing equipment to overseeing new and upgraded crane designs. He believes having the technical expertise to properly assess others’ work is an important part of that role.
“To intelligently review somebody else’s work, you have to know how to do it yourself. At Eadon we have a good understanding of the design of cranes, handling equipment and building structures,” he says.
By combining this hands-on experience with Eadon’s broader multidisciplinary skills, we can confidently challenge designs and help ensure clients get engineering solutions that are safe, appropriate and fit for their intended purpose.
