Piping and Pressure Vessel Engineering for Fusion

23/09/2026

Eadon has recently put its knowledge of piping to use in the fusion industry by applying the engineering capabilities that we already have to the problems presented by this rapidly expanding sector.

Because pipework is used extensively in fusion facilities for a variety of purposes, such as for cooling and process systems, as well as for handling fuels like tritium, the systems have to cope with severe operating and loading conditions, which is why robust design and analysis are an important part of their development.

Eadon has worked on piping and pressure vessel engineering across various industries, giving us a solid base to support the fusion sector. We develop pipework routing and supporting structure layouts, including 3D modelling if required, and carry out detailed pipe stress analysis using software like Caesar II and AutoPIPE.

We are also able to assess systems against recognised design codes, considering thermal and pressure loads alongside more demanding conditions such as seismic, blast, dynamic and vessel motion loads.

Complementing our pipework expertise, our pressure vessel capability includes design and assessment to codes such as PD5500 and ASME VIII. Where more detailed analysis is required, our engineers use finite element analysis to evaluate structural behaviour and demonstrate performance under demanding loading and operating conditions.

We can assist with projects at all stages, from initial concept through detailed design and manufacturing, by combining our expertise in mechanical design, structural engineering and advanced analysis. Our integrated approach enables us to create solutions that are both technically sound and practical in terms of manufacturing, installation and operation.

With our recent experience of applying our piping expertise in fusion, we’re looking forward to building on this and providing support for more of the engineering challenges that arise as this exciting sector continues to develop.
