Mechanical Design
Mechanical design is at the heart of what we do. From initial concepts, 3D models and prototypes through to detailed manufacturing drawings and onsite commissioning, we work at all stages of the project cycle. We have extensive experience of delivering cost effective, safe and reliable solutions across a wide range of sectors including nuclear handling, moving structures and bespoke machinery. Our depth and breadth of knowledge facilitates a cross fertilisation of ideas from one sector to another, ensuring the most suitable design solution is developed for each specific project.

We work with other consultants, fabricators, architects and OEMs to build and participate in teams that deliver world class and innovative solutions. Some of our projects can be seen internationally, others are tucked away from public view carrying out vital tasks behind the scenes.
Our knowledge of mechanical, structural, electrical and hydraulic engineering enables us to integrate these disciplines into a solution that delivers the project requirements in a seamless and reliable way. Our philosophy is to fully understand and define the problem and then work with our clients to arrive at a solution that best matches their needs. We work from first principles and sound engineering practice to develop concepts. At all stages of the design process reviews are carried out to ensure the design is buildable and safe to install, operate and maintain, whilst ensuring that high levels of reliability are achieved.

We ensure that all designs comply with any relevant legislation, such as the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008, the Machinery Directive (Safety of Machinery 2006/42/EC (CE Marking)), as well as LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations) and PUWER (Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations). The traditional hand calculations used to develop designs are supported by our extensive and sophisticated analysis capability ensuring that designs are robust and safe but also optimised.
