Structural Design
We have designed a multitude of different types of structures for many varying applications and sectors. These range from simple fixed structures all the way through to complex structures with integral moving elements. The theme throughout them all has been their unique nature, either due to the unusual loading they are subject to or the application they will be used for. They have ranged from specialist bridge access gangways through to offshore structures and moving bridges. We can provide design services from initial concept through to fully detailed design drawings, as well as offering support during construction.

This variety of experience gives us a breadth of experience to draw on for each new challenge. We are able to apply the most effective process for the design of the structure as well as being able to quickly identify any issues as well as ways of resolving them. Initially considering the design from first principles, we are able to understand the design and its individual requirements and then decide on the most suitable design codes and standards to apply.
We have also assessed structures subject to a variety of different loads such as seismic, blast and fatigue. This has typically used a combination of both simple hand calculations as well as more detailed techniques such as Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
Our expertise in both mechanical and structural design puts us in a unique position to be able to understand the interaction between these disciplines, particularly for moving structures. We understand the effects of dynamic response and can consider this from early in the design process.
We have designed structures to be built from a variety of materials such as steel, timber, stainless steel, aluminium, GRP and FRP. These have included lock gates, roller coasters, pontoons, walkways and a myriad of other items.
