Eadon Design Access Platforms For Forth Road Bridge
The Spencer Group has recently taken delivery of the first of 14 aluminium access platforms for the Forth Road Bridge. The platforms were designed by Eadon Consulting in collaboration with The Spencer Group. The platforms were designed in aluminium to minimise weight making their handling on site during installation easier and safer.
The units are designed so that they can be either installed separately or linked together to form longer platforms.
Each platform consists of two end frames, a front hand rail and a base. The end frames are installed and clamped to the main chord of the bridge and then the base is lowered down to locate within the sockets on the end frames. The last piece to be installed is the hand rail which provides both protection and further rigidity to the platform.
Eadon were also involved in the Humber Bridge Main Cable Inspection by performing a Category 3 check of the high level steel platforms and their support systems for C Spencer Limited.
