Merchant Square success

02/10/2014

Merchant Square bridge, which forms part of the widely acclaimed Paddington Basin re-development, is now officially open. The project which began in early 2012 adds another distinctive aspect to the premier commercial, residential and leisure quarter in the heart of the City of Westminster.

The crossing, which is one of several unusual bridges along the same stretch of canal, boasts a unique design which comprises 5 separate beams. When raised, these hydraulically lifted fingers are positioned to form a shape similar to that of a Japanese fan.

Eadon’s Michael Thorogood will speak about the bridge’s mechanical operating equipment at an IABSE Visits event later this month.
