04/08/2017

Eadon Consulting has won funding from the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority and the UK’s Innovation Agency, Innovate UK, to develop an innovative system for nuclear decommissioning.

The “Integrated Innovation for Nuclear Decommissioning” competition is specifically aimed at unlocking the potential of specialist small engineering companies, to tackle the £85Billion challenge of decommissioning the Sellafield site. Eadon’s proposed system will enable nuclear decommissioning to be conducted faster, more safely, and at reduced cost.

Eadon have formed a bespoke team to develop the “Versatile Decommissioning System”, bringing together expertise from a range of engineering disciplines. Team members include offshore engineering experts Red Engineering; scanning and data manipulation experts PES Scanning; Sellafield construction experts Westlakes Engineering; Sheffield University’s Nuclear Advanced Manufacturing and Research Centre; and the famous ship builder and fabricator Cammell Laird.

Over the next 3 months the team will conduct a detailed study to develop the integrated system, including initial calculations for the design of specialist equipment and developing concepts for the CAD planning systems. The team will then apply for continued funding to build a working prototype.
