Supporting Ewood Park’s Steelwork Refurbishment

04/09/2026

Eadon Consulting has recently provided specialist structural engineering and rope access support for Mountain Earth’s major steelwork refurbishment at Blackburn Rovers’ F.C.

Mountain Earth has been appointed to refurbish approximately 6000 linear metres of roof steelwork across three stands at Ewood Park Stadium. To ensure safe access, a bespoke travelling cradle system has been developed by Denholm Industrial Services (DIS), which will be supported directly by the existing roof structure.

Eadon’s role was to both physically inspect the existing structure and verify through calculation that it could safely support the additional weight of the cradle system.

Using rope access techniques, we began by conducting a condition assessment of the supporting beams, taking thickness measurements to identify any loss of section due to corrosion resulting from deterioration of the protective coating.

After the condition assessment, we completed structural checks of the cradle support arrangement and the wider roof structure, including the roof beams and trusses. The assessment, conducted in accordance with BS EN 1808, confirmed that the structure could accommodate the proposed system, allowing the refurbishment to proceed.

This project is a great example of the added value Eadon offers by combining structural engineering expertise with in-house rope access skills. Our engineers can access hard-to-reach structures themselves, enabling them to inspect assets firsthand and gather the information needed for inspections.
