Eastwood Footbridge

The new Eastwood footbridge in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, has been completed and officially opened to the public. The replacement structure, which crosses the Don Navigation and provides a link to local shopping areas, was commissioned after the original bridge fell into a state of disrepair.

After Ekspan Ltd won the contract to run the project, Eadon Consulting were approached to design, model and detail the new crossing. Using our extensive knowledge in bridge design as well as our modelling and detailing capabilities we were able to produce a safe, manufacturable and cost effective solution whilst working to a tight timescale.

The bridge has a span of over 18 metres and is fabricated out of steel. To allow for safe pedestrian crossing and also for a suitable clearance for passing vessels beneath the structure, the design incorporates a split direction staircase at either end.

Connecting the Eastwood area of Rotherham to the popular Parkgate shopping precinct, the bridge provides a vital local link. The completion of this project also sees another successful addition to Eadon’s ever expanding design portfolio.
