The units were designed so that they can be either installed separately or linked together to form longer platforms.

Each platform consisted of two end frames, a front hand rail and a base. The end frames are installed and clamped to the main chord of the bridge and then the base is lowered down to locate within the sockets on the end frames. The last piece to be installed is the hand rail which provides both protection and further rigidity to the platform.
