This moving bridge uses a unique arrangement to balance the bridge. In the closed position (open to pedestrians) the counter weight is rested on supports beneath the bridge. When the bridge is required to move a lifting frame picks up the counter weight. This results in the bridge becoming tail heavy which in turn lifts the nose span. To allow the bridge to pivot about a vertical axis when it becomes tail heavy the deck is mounted on a pair of pivots. A more standard arrangement with a slewing bearing and drive motors is utilised to crate the rotary motion.
Eadon carried out the design work and produced the detailed manufacturing drawings for the equipment and these items have now been fabricated and are awaiting surface protection before being assembled by Movetech. Once assembled they will be delivered to site where they will be fitted to the new bridge currently under construction.
