Eadon Consulting were invited by Arup to assist them with the design of replacement bearings for A-Frame regeneration work on the Humber Suspension Bridge. Structurally critical components of the bridge, the longest in the world when opened back in 1981, were in need of replacement after becoming worn.
As modern structural design develops and architect’s concepts become more complicated, standard off-the-shelf bearing designs are not always suitable due to unusual structural movements or loads. Novel solutions are required in order to design the structural bearings and ensure they can be accommodated in the available space.
