Waterways and Marine

We have built a broad base of knowledge and experience within the waterways and marine sector with projects ranging from the design of timber canal lock gates through to large steel sector gates and linkspans. Our team are also actively involved in international industry bodies such as PIANC, developing and reviewing good practice within the sector. Our depth and breadth of knowledge within the sector has been used by clients to enhance their own capabilities, as well as to oversee and manage the integration of large scale projects involving mechanical, structural, hydraulic and electrical systems.
We are experienced designers, bringing together our knowledge of mechanical and structural systems, combined with experience of hydraulics and electrical control. This has enabled us to design a number of different types of water control structures such as mitre and sector gates as well as large fishbelly and radial gates. We have worked on projects from concept through to detail design and manufacturing drawings. Our experience of supporting clients through site installation and commissioning also enables us to ensure our designs are cost effective and practical.
We have worked on a number of different Ro-ro and linkspan structures, designing and assessing the various mechanical systems that they utilise including the detail design of linkspan fingers and rollers.
This breadth of experience has also been used to help with the inspection and assessment of existing structures and operating equipment. We have provided independent reviews enabling life extensions of port infrastructure as well as due diligence reports for banks, financial institutions and investors.
We have worked with a variety of relevant standards and legislation including BS6349, DIN19704 and the Eurocodes. This knowledge, combined with our experience of compliance with the Machineries Directive 2006/42/EC enables us to ensure that projects are not only well designed, but also safe and reliable to operate.
